1st Marine Recon Battalion, Vietnam, 1966
Initially, Marine Recon personnel wore standard utility uniforms in Vietnam. By 1966, locally-made camouflage uniforms were available. This soldier wears the 'sea-wave' or 'tiger-stripe' pattern. The boots are Vietnamese-made jungle boots called "Bata boots" after the manufacturer. A beret was the mark of elite forces in Vietnam, and Marine Recon personnel wore either a black or a tiger-stripe type. The weapon is a Stoner 63, which the Marines tested in the early 1960s.
