Reconnaissance Team Leader, MACV-SOG, Vietnam, 1969
During the eight years that MACV-SOG existed, widely varying mission uniforms and combinations of equipment were used. Choice of uniforms and weapons changed over time, depending on experience, and the requirements of the mission.

This soldier is wearing jungle fatigues with black disruptive splotches spray painted on. Although used to a limited extent, it proved to be very effective in jungle shadows and at night. Other types of uniforms were used, but olive green were the most common, as the dark green color had the appearance of an NVA uniform from a distance.  Uniforms were sometimes soaked in insect repellent and air-dried before a mission. As team leader, he is wearing what is called a "One-Zero" vest, a locally purchased item.

All types of headgear were worn. His leggings are leftovers from WWII.
