Not all US Marine advisors served with the South Vietnamese Marines. Some also served with South Vietnamese Army, Navy, and special operation units. This US Marine advisor was assigned to the MACV-SOG Maritime Studies based in Da Nang for amphibious reconaissance and raids on the Vietnamese coast.
This soldier wore an unconventional uniform in order to resemble the enemy from a distance, but carries a US flag for recognition from the air. He wears an NVA bush hat, black shirt and trousers, a floation vest, and Chinese or "Chicom" (Chinese Communist) ammunition pouches for his AK 47 assault rifle. His pack is NVA. |
