Sergeant, USMC, Blue Dress, 1942
This Marine is in full dress uniform. Such attire continued to be worn during the war as full dress or optional walking-out dress, by members of Marine detachments in Washington DC and in London, England.

The color of this uniform has practically remained unchanged for most of Marine Corp history. Features recalls past successes. The Mameluke sword, commemorates the capture of Derna from the Pasha of Tripoli in 1805. The red trouser stripe, only worn by officers and NCO's represents the battle of Chapultepec during the Mexican War.

The hat is actually a frame, worn with different covers. The service stripes below the sergeant cheverons represent the completion of two previous four-year enlistments.
